SAFETY PROGRAMS
Why do we need a safety program?
Did you know that most insurance companies provide discounts on your Workers Compensation Premium if your company has a
safety committee that is approved by the Department of Labor?
An effective safety program can:
- Reduce on-the-job accidents
- Reduce insurance costs
- Lower workers compensation costs
- Avoid costly interruptions to operations
- Improve productivity
- Reduce the need for training replacement personnel
- Improve employee attitude, morale and the feeling of teamwork
- Improve overall quality
What do we need to start a program?
- A minimum of 2 Managers and 2 Laborers. Preferably a higher Laborer to Manager ratio, but keeping the group to a maximum
of 8 to remain cohesive and focused.
- Meet a minimum of one time per month and have a specific agenda.
How does it work?
Studies of workplace accidents consistently show that 90% of all workplace accidents result from instances where employees
knew the proper procedures and had the proper equipment, but failed to comply with established safety requirements.
Identify Problem Areas
Your safety committee will work together to identify problem areas in your company from first-hand experience and accident reports.
Publish the name of all committee members in your company newsletter, lunchroom, time clock areas and other highly visible spots to
allow all employees to voice their concerns to the committee.
Define Goals
It is impossible to eliminate all accidents. Choose realistic goals to reduce accidents in certain areas. Focus on one or two key
objectives in order to allow a sense of achievement.
Offer Incentives
Tama Graphics & Marketing Inc. can offer numerous Incentive awards to meet the needs of your company. We will work with you
to implement a manageable award system through catalogs or online company stores.
